Stay in a luxurious self-catering cottage, comfortable studio or a caravan on a smallholding in West Cornwall. We are a mile and a half inland, midway between St Michael's Mount and Porthleven, on the SW slopes of Tregonning Hill. It is just five minutes by car to the south coast beaches at Praa Sands, Rinsey Cove and Prussia Cove.
From the farm there are wonderful views across the fields to the Penwith hills and the sea at Mount’s Bay. There is a footpath from the farm to the top of Tregonning Hill with fantastic views both to the south coast (Mount’s Bay) and the north coast at St Ives Bay.
We welcome children and dogs. The Cottage, Studio and Caravan are all very private so you won’t meet other visitors unless you want to. There are fields to play in and even in the busiest summer months the farm is a peaceful retreat at the end of the day.
Lower Balwest Farm is located almost halfway between Lands End and Lizard Point, which makes it a perfect base to explore West Cornwall. St Michael’s Mount, St. Ives, Zennor, Penzance, Newlyn, Mousehole, Lizard Point (Kynance Cove), Helford and Falmouth are just a few of the places within half an hour’s drive. West Cornwall is a magical place and even in high summer it is possible to find unfrequented coves, cliffs and woodland if you are prepared to explore. There is so much to discover around the Lizard, the Penwith Peninsula and St. Ives Bay that you will never get bored.
Mazey’s Cottage is a delightful 18thC stone cottage which was completely renovated in 2011. The cottage faces south and is light, bright, warm and comfortable. There are two ‘bathrooms’ and plenty of living space - the sitting room and kitchen/diner are both large family rooms. Most of Mazey’s Cottage is on one level, making it suitable for those with limited mobility. Although close to the farmhouse the cottage is very private. The views you will have are of the courtyards, trees and hedges plus fields and the sea when sitting outside.
Set in the garden on the far side of the house, the Studio is very comfortable, private and peaceful. The main room has windows to both sides as well as roof lights (windows) which gives it a light, airy tranquil feel. All the windows look out to the garden or to our trees and Tregonning Hill. There are modern kitchen appliances and a tiled wet room with shower. The Studio has a private garden to sit in and access to a field and local footpaths.
Unfortunately, The Caravan is no longer available this season.
We only have one caravan, next to the paddock. It has its own private garden area and lovely views over the fields to the sea. The caravan is a 32ft ‘mobile’ home with two bedrooms and a small ‘bathroom’. It is not ultra modern but it is well equipped and comfortable and is fine for those who like to ‘camp’ but want a bit more comfort and protection. We only let the caravan for a short time in the summer months.
